Although a client's first contact will most likely be with Brian
Jackson-Pownall or his wife Vikki, it will soon become apparent that
there is an extensive family involved.
Rare it is nowadays that a family remains close knit as the years pass
and rare too that the same interests involve the different generations.
From an early age however, the six children worked and learnt about
people and hospitality, with hands on experience that covered Yachting,
Chartering and on board Catering, as well as Hotelerie, Restauration and
VIP travel.
Today, besides Brian and Vikki's Yachting activity, two daughters work
with Yachts International Yachting Publication, one as Assistant Editor
and the other in Marketing. |
A third owns, with her
husband, companies that specialize in VIP travel and International Jet
Ski tours. www.jetsetpersonalservices.com. Another assists in all of the
above.
Brian and Vikki Jackson-Pownall started St Petersburg Yacht Sales,
Florida in the early 1970's, following the construction and sale by
Brian of a couple of commercial vessels of 45ft (15m).
Holding dealerships in several nationally known lines of sailing yachts,
Pearson, Cal, Morgan and Dufour amongst others, the business expanded
over the years to include Brokerage, Charter and a very successful
Ship's Chandlery. The business continues to this day, although under
different ownership.
Family commitments caused the family to move to the South of France in
the eighties, where the children benefited from the discipline of that
countries educational system, while learning the values to be gleaned
from an alternative culture..
The blending of their personal lives into the families interests at the
time, tourism and ownership of a restaurant served them well in
anticipation of the start of another family marine business in Cannes in
1988, when Brian Jackson-Pownall formed a company for the sale and
charter of Yachts in France.
Reestablishing their involvement in the marine industry after an absence
of five years, the family purchased a 74ft - 100 ton - steel Dutch
Trawler with a permanent berth in the prestigious Old Port of Cannes..
The maintenance, crewing and performance of the "Mullion" involved all
members of the family for thirteen years, each becoming involved as
their lives permitted and each leaving their personal imprint on a
business that had a first class reputation with a blue chip clientele.
Returning to Florida over the course of the Millennium, the family
regrouped in the Fort Lauderdale/North Miami area, where Vikki and Brian
Jackson-Pownall reestablished their presence on Florida's yachting scene
after an absence of some twenty years. |
